Irish Chain in Progress

I’ve been busy doing some quilting on my own small wallhanging seen in the last post.  However, the background fill is taking over the design and the gold metallic thread just isn’t standing out enough.  I’ll finish it and chalk it up to learning what works and what doesn’t.  I don’t learn unless I “do.”  This is my first wholecloth although it is a 2 color wholecloth.  I’ll post pictures of my progress in the next post.  Maybe.

Right now I’m working on a very large (89 x 109) Double Irish Chain.   My friend Joanne is an excellent piecer and this one is no exception.  It was square and measured almost exactly with all 6 measurements.  I didn’t even have to square up the backing.  I’m working on basting the outside edge and stitching the blue border, sitch in the ditch and the squares.  The squares have a simple line dancing design with leaves and curls in the border.  The batting is Quilters Dream Wool and is so yummy.  Just enough loft to give good quilting definition without being poofy.

Here’s a very rough sketch of a design I might put in the large cream blocks.

Stop by again to see the final Irish Chain quilt.
